Good music maker February 7, 2010 C. E. Davison Gift for Christmas for a young man that likes all sorts of international musical instruments. Was appreciated as a gift.
My three kids LOVE to play together with this. April 17, 2008 B. E. Carroll (Florida) It's so cool to see my kids playing with the same toy/concept at the same time. No one is fighting. they are actually working together to create music! They copy each other's rythms and work out strategies for making the melody. It's really the simplest toy, but is so far above the quality of those new, fancy toys out there. Get this and you'll see.
We had fun January 7, 2008 Susan J. Blair (Pleasanton, CA USA) The sound wasn't as good as I expected but my family had a blast playing Jingle Bells on our heads for Christmas.
Best for supervised whacking August 6, 2007 choral man 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
Boomwhackers are a great product enjoyed by music teachers and their students. They work best under supervised use by a music teacher rather than just giving them to two- and three-year-olds to be randomly whacking away. Also, though they're pretty durable, they are not meant to be in a contest to see who can whack them the hardest. As they get a bit flattened with use, they will work better if you round them out again.
In a music class of grade school children, simple melodies can be taught, but an easier use, and best for young children, is to have a group whack out simple chords while everyone sings a simple song. Can be used with simple I, IV, and V chords. They become even more useful if you purchase the set of chromatic notes, so you can do some tunes in other keys or that require a different part of the scale for the melody. Add a second set, buy and insert the "octavators" (small inserts in one end), and they'll sound one octave lower. This gives you a second octave with which to work.
Not as musical as I had hoped June 8, 2007 Beverly J. Kaplan (New Jersey) 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
I purchased this toy for a 4 year old and hoped he would enjoy it with his older brother. It became something to bang with- on everything in sight! However, not much music ensued, and thus, I was very disappointed in its musical or educational value.
