GREAT STUFF!! February 6, 2010 DEVIL 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
TOOK THE ANNOYING RING OUT OF MY SNARE DRUM! I USED TWO PADS, ONE AT 12 O' CLOCK, AND ONE AT 3 O'CLOCK. DID THE TRICK! NOW, IF I CAN JUST FIGURE OUT HOW MANY TO USE ON MY EX-WIFE! BUY 'EM !!
Moongels really do work! August 6, 2009 Athena (NJ) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I bought Moongels to improve the sound of a really cheap begginers drum set and it worked magic on them. I applied the max muffling recommended by RTOM (two gel pieces per head) on the toms and they sound great now. On the bass drum I combined the Evans RGS pad on the batter head with two Moongels on the resonant head and it sounds perfect now!
The best muffler in the world. May 22, 2009 Yes Fan (RJ Brazil) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Its incredible: Now I can change the amount of muffling needed in diferent ocasions. No more ugly tapes, nomore dirty and ugly heads, and it's washable....I can't believe how good it's it. I can't live with it anymore.
Can't beat the flexibility March 6, 2009 Rim (Alexandria, VA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
The best things about these are their flexibility - you can customize how much dampening to suit your taste. I actually like the Remo rings and if you put these gels near the rim, they sound the same as the Remo to me. But, if you wanted more dampening, just move the gels further from the rims (closer to the center). With Remos, you have one dampening level and that's it. Also, unlike rings, you don't have to worry about getting the right size for your drums.
Each container has four gel pads and I use four gel pads for each drum. I put them about a half inch off the rim and equidistant from each other at 12 o'clock, at 3 o'clock, at 6 o'clock and at 9 o'clock. Feel free to rotate that pattern or even change the pattern altogether to suit your playing style and taste. For my snare (aluminum), I like more dampening so the gels are 3/4 inch off the rim (and I start the patter at 2:30 so they're more out of the way). For my floor tom, I have them almost 1.5 inches off the rim. Since the floor tom drum is big anyway, the gels don't get in the way of my playing. I haven't tried it, but I would guess I could get the same level of dampening if I moved the gels closer to the rims but used more of them (6 total may work or even 8 total). I really like the extra dampening I can get with these on my snare and floor tom.
I've only reused them once (took them off then put them back on) and they seem fine. One trick I found useful was to stagger the gels in a criss cross pattern when putting them back in their plastic case. They originally came stacked (lined up) and I was a little scared of ripping them while I was pulling them apart. None ripped, but putting them back in the case in a criss cross pattern made separating them a lot easier.
The only thing I'm not crazy about is the look - it does look a little weird having these blue things on your drums (my skins are white). If they made clear ones, that would be sweet.
Must Have January 16, 2009 C. Flynn 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
Playing the drums is an expensive hobby. Sticks, heads, cymbals, stands, grabber arms, miscellaneous hardware pieces, pyrotechnics, leather chaps, it all ads up. I'm always on the lookout for low cost, high value drum accessories. Moongel Damper Pads, are one of the best values I have seen.
