Video baluns offer a cost-effective way to install surveillance and video systems. Unshielded twisted pair cable, like Cat 5E, is less expensive than coaxial cable and is generally easier to install due to its smaller diameter and added flexibility. The push terminal accepts one pair of the four-pair of conductors. Simply remove the jacket from the cable and strip the insulation from the paired conductors. It is best to keep the pairs twisted together, untwisting only about 1/2" for use with the balun.
Using the balun, the video signal is converted to a 100 ohm signal to travel up to 1000 feet. The ultimate length of run possible will depend on the current capability of the power supply being used.
As an added point of value, the input and output of a balun are not physically connected, so use will essentially eliminate the effects of ground loops on the system.
