For extreme SPL bass, without the high price tag, Timpano Audio's TPT-TSUB12 D4 12" dual voice coil subwoofer can't be beat. With 30 mm peak to peak xmax and capable of handling up to 800 watts RMS this driver is designed to move serious amounts of air. Thanks to the double stacked magnet assembly, the TPT-TSUB12 D4 has ample motor force and clearance to handle its impressive excursion capability without risk of damage. The 2-1/2" 4-layer voice coil is wound on a high temperature former to handle peaks of up to 1,600 watts without problems. In addition, to keep the coil cool and power compression low during continuous periods of extreme SPL, this driver has extensive paths for airflow including a vented pole piece, 6 peripheral gap vents, and under spider vents. A thick pulp paper cone is used to withstand high pressure without deforming. Keeping all this excursion capability linear is a large diameter flat spider and oversized surround that is even stitched to the cone for a strong mechanical connection eliminating failure on this high stress point. For wire connections, the TPT-TSUB12 D2 uses binding post terminals to ensure that your speaker wires have a low resistance connection and stay secure even under extreme vibration. Finally, the installed rubber gasket guarantees an airtight seal and wraps around to the front of the frame for a clean look.
