Zell and Richard Genée, based on the story Le Château Trompette by Genée and Eugène Cormon. The work premiered on October 3, 1883 at the Neues Friedrich Wilhelmstädtisches Theater in Berlin. The overture establishes the sparkling, Viennese locale in which the romantic farce about mistaken identity is set.
