Experience the Rich Cultural Heritage of the Mid-East Tupan Drum

The Mid-East Rope Tuned Tupan Drum 26-Inch is a traditional Middle Eastern instrument that has been used in ceremonies, festivals, and wars for centuries. This 8-pound drum boasts two large natural skin heads stretched over a lightweight plywood body, giving it a deep booming voice and rich resonance. The edges of the heads are rolled and tucked around wooden hoops, and then attached to the frame by cording stitched back and forth from head to head. The drum can be tuned by adjusting the leather tabs over the cords.

Authenticity and Craftsmanship

This Tupan Drum is crafted with authenticity and attention to detail, just like the traditional instruments used in Bulgarian folk music and Turkish ceremonies. The 26-inch diameter and 18-inch deep frame body make it an impressive instrument that commands attention. The drum comes with a beater and a switch, allowing you to explore diverse rhythms and sounds.

Playing Techniques and Expressions

Playing the Tupan Drum is an art that requires skill and practice. The two heads of the drum are played with two beaters, with the dominant hand playing the accented beats with the larger thicker beater, called a tokmak. The end of the tokmak may be rapped in cloth to create a muted sound. The other hand holds the thinner switch and plays rapid rhythms. An accomplished drummer will get various sounds from different parts of the two heads, as well as rapping the wooden body.

Product codes ending in "-3(S)" and "-4(S)" are also new and unused, but came to manufacturer needing repairs. If it's a "-3(S)," the product has been repaired, but if it's a "-4(S)," it will still require significant repairs when received by the customer.

SPECIAL NOTE ON STRINGS:
There is no warranty on strings. Manufacturers recommend that you change the strings on your instrument as soon as you receive it. Your instrument has completed a long journey before it ever begins the final leg to your home. During this time the elements affect the strings and may shorten their lifespan. It occasionally happens that a string will fail during that final leg of the journey. Therefore, it is recommended that you purchase a replacement set of strings and consider changing your strings soon after it arrives. If you are a student you may want to change your strings every 3-4 months. If you are a rock star you may need to change your strings every week. If you store your instrument, you should consider changing the strings when you pick it up again.

Please note:
For safety during shipping, the manufacturer don't tune the instruments before sending them to customers. Return policy A 15% handling charge is levied against all authorized returns except those due to our error. Unauthorized returns are subject to a 35% handling charge.
